PARK STREET SCHOOL ASSOCIATION (PSSA)

All parents of Park Street School pupils are automatically members of the PSSA. We raise money for the school and the children by organising fund-raising events and also social occasions where the emphasis is more on fun, friends and family.

The PSSA committee meets once every six weeks or so to plan new events and review progress. We also decide how all the hard earned money will be spent for the benefit of the school as a whole.

Everyone is welcome to come to any PSSA meeting to see what goes on. Dates and times are posted on the noticeboard. Alternatively, see the Headteacher, any member of the PSSA or the School Secretary. You will be very welcome.

Recent events

The school always holds a Christmas Market on the last Saturday in November which is co-ordinated by members of the PSSA. This is always a well-attended fun day with craft stalls and cakes vying for attention with tombolas, raffles and children's games stalls. We raise about £2,000 from this event.

The other main event in the PSSA year is the summer fete, held outside whenever possible to allow the throwing of wet sponges, beat the goalie, coconut shy, and a delicious barbeque to be added to the list of stalls on offer.

In addition the PSSA holds many other functions to entertain the parents and friends of the school. Over the last few years we have had summer balls, quiz nights, beetle drives, barn dances, bingo nights, theatre trips, children's discos, and ladies' evenings.

We also run jumble sales, second-hand uniform sales, cake sales and end-of-term tuck shops.

Allocation of funds

The way we allocate expenditure of our funds is decided in close consultation with the staff and Headteacher of the school.

Major contributions have been towards the purchase of the computer system now installed in school, and the purchase of seven TV/VCR's so that one is available in each classroom.

Additionally, in recent times the PSSA has funded the purchase of many new items of equipment, including basketball nets for the KS2 playground, the marking out of games on the KS1 playground, play time equipment for all year groups, a shed for the nursery outdoor play equipment, items to create and enhance the Environmental Area and benches for the playgrounds. The PSSA also makes a vital contribution to the fund for the purchase of new library books and supplies book bags to new nursery and Y3 children every year.
